An update on Sydney

Sydney is doing well. We are still working on the sleeping during the
night plan (3 hour stretches in her cradle) as it is a work in progress
:-). She has had her first bath at home last night. Thanks for all the
well wishes and congratulations and prayer support in addition to all
of the very useful gifts!!

Here is Sydney's first bath at home.

A clean Sydney after the bath.

Here she is after her bath and before bedtime.

Here is Sydney when we put her to sleep in the cradle. Hopefully soon she will stay that way. :-)

This is where she ends up after hours of trying to get her to sleep in her cradle. :-/

Since Jessica's mom will be leaving soon, we hired a babysitter-here is Brownie watching Sydney nap in her bouncer. :)

Sydney's 1st time in her Bouncer

Tonight at 2 days old, we let Sydney try out her Rainforest Bouncer. We figured she would enjoy the vibration to it and just sit there. It also has music and some animals that spin and she enjoyed watching Dad spin the bird. Check out what she did after she watched Dad spin the bird several times. It is pretty amazing at 2 days! :-)

Sydney's home!!

After two days in the hospital, Sydney and Mom are doing great. Both received very good reports from their doctor and were released after 48 hours in the hospital. Mom is recovering well but is still sore around her incision. Sunday we had several friends stop by to see Sydney and several others called to congratulate us and talk about how cute she is. We appreciate all the visitors and those that sent their well wishes over the phone or email.

Sydney arrived home today at 1:00 which was very exciting. Right now both Mom and Sydney are taking a nap on the couch. There will be much more later but Dad is going to take a nap as well. :-)

Here is a photo album of some pictures from Sunday and of Sydney coming home.

Sydney is here!!!!!!!!!!

Sydney Grace McClanahan was born at 11:01 AM on May 26, 2007, delivered by Dr. Gass at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. She weighed in at 8 lbs 2 oz and was 20 inches long. She has full head of dark hair with blue eyes with a green tint. She is beautiful. She got a healthy report from her pediatrician, Dr. Chris Smith, and passed her hearing test which is SUPER news!

Jessica is also doing very well. She is already walking down the hall and is just thrilled with our healthy beautiful daughter. I will have more updates later but have just stopped home for a quick shower.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. They were answered with a healthy little girl.

Here is a photo album from yesterday's events. There will be many more in the days to come.

Here is the slide show version for those you would rather just see a slide show of precious Sydney Grace. :-)

Sydney is coming!!!!

Today we found out that Sydney is coming on Saturday, May 26, 2007. She should be born into the world at approximately 9am. There has basically been no progression from last week til' today and Dr. Gass told us that based on all he knows, if I were his daughter or his wife, he would go ahead with a C-section at this point. That was more than enough for us to agree.

We are looking forward to one more day of just us 4, before the 5th McClanahan makes her big arrival on Saturday. We are also looking forward to seeing many of you this weekend, or very soon after!

38 Week Update

Today, we visited Dr. Gass, and found out that I have progressed a little, but not much, toward labor. At this point, he is concerned about 2 things: 1-my anatomy (apparently I have a small pelvic area), and 2-also about my big girl getting bigger :) as we near her due date.

We will wait one more week, until next Thursday, and make a decision after that appointment about Sydney Grace's arrival. If things haven't changed much, she will be born next Friday, May 25th, by C-section. If I have progressed, we will either induce on Friday or wait a few more days to see if I go into labor.

Although I would obviously prefer to deliver my princess without C-section, Jeff and I are both very comfortable with Dr. Gass and whatever he recommends. He made it clear to us that he is most concerned with the health of both Sydney and me.

Your prayers over the next week are much appreciated!

She's Gonna be a Big One.... (37 week appointment)

Yesterday, we went to the doctor's office to confirm by ultrasound if Sydney has her head down, and exactly what her size is.

We got great news that she is in the correct position, and....also that she currently weighs 7 lb, 14 ounces, with nearly three weeks remaining til our due date. (FYI: The average size for a newborn at birth is 7.5 lbs and the average size of a baby at 37 weeks is 6 lbs 5 oz).

In the past five weeks, since our 32 week appointment, Sydney has gained 3 lbs and 12 ounces, instead of the expected ~2.5 lbs. This weight puts Sydney Grace in the 91st percentile for other babies her age, yet I haven't progressed any towards labor.

Jeff and I are very thankful that she is growing and appears to be very healthy, but a bit concerned about her size, and those implications. We will see Dr. Gass on Friday and start discussing plans moving into the final two weeks.

Until then, we'll be walking...... :)

Below is the 37 week belly picture and Ultrasound.

36 Week Dr. Visit

Yesterday, we had our 36 week Dr. visit-everything went well, and we found out that Sydney has apparently been a good girl, and turned around the correct way (head down). To be 100% sure, and also to address Dr. Gass's concern that she is going to be a pretty big girl, we will have one more ultrasound this coming Friday. Confirming her weight and measurements at that point will likely give us a plan for when we should induce, if I don't go into labor pretty close to the due date.

Other than that, Jeff and I are getting very confident in assembling Sydney Grace's things. Last night, we installed her video monitor. Just a couple days ago, we assembled her highchair. We really like it-it is very slim when folded up. Notice, that Sydney's friend is sitting in it (thanks to Laurie and Cort for Sydney's first Big Red doll) and holding her place until she gets here and is ready to use it herself.

We are also very excited to have assembled her car seat and base today. My parents purchased the Chicco Cortina "travel system" for us, which includes the car seat and base, as well as the stroller (shown in an earlier post). Sydney really appreciates it :)

Hope everyone out there enjoys the rest of the weekend!
