Scenes from Sydney's party

Sydney with two special presents-her push around buggy, and her new playset for outside.

Time for lunch...the rain moved many of us to the garage for lunch :)

Time to open presents!

Sydney's own cake...how fun!

She did not like cake :)

"Hey Avery, it's time to start playing with all my new toys!"

Being pushed in her new buggy is the thing she has enjoyed most so far.

Last night for dinner...she still didn't like her cake (so she had grilled cheese and grapes and Daddy and I ate her cake!)

It was a very happy birthday for all three of us!

Sydney's First Birthday!

One year ago....5/26/07

Current....one year old picture

Memorial Day 2008...Sydney's first birthday!!!!!

Here's a snapshot of Sydney at one year. She still loves to wave and smiles at just about everyone she sees. She doesn't clap as much as she was just a month ago. Her favorite thing for the last few weeks is to point at things, or bring us things to show us what she wants. She is still doing the "crinkled up nose and show my big teeth smile." In the past month, she has added "that" to her list of words. In total, here are the words she is saying at one year (in order of her preference): Dawg, Dada, That! (pointing to what she wants), ByeBye (for both hello and goodbye), No! (smiles), Uhoh (any time she drops something, etc), Mama, Nana, Yhea. Sydney is still a pig, and for the past couple of weeks has completely turned down her baby food (as she shakes her head back and forth) for the better stuff.

She is doing a lot of cruising and she just lights up when she notices "George" or her walker (and loves to walk with the walker or holding onto us), but doesn't have the confidence to take steps on her own just yet. Her favorite toys right now are her walker, her farm, books, and the ball popper. She loves to listen to music as she plays in her room. She wants to take a bath all the time, and often crawls into the bathroom to point "THAT!" to the tub. Also, when one of us is laughing, she joins in with her own silly laughter. Another love of Sydney's is to go swinging at the park, and I'm sure will be really excited to get that new swing in her own backyard that she'll be getting for her birthday. She is eating almost everything (sometimes she turns her nose up at certain vegetables). Some of her favorite foods are strawberries, grapes, sliced cheese, sliced ham, bread, black olives, and crackers.

As far as her personality, she is almost always very happy...several people have commented to us that she is the happiest baby they know.

We can not believe that it is already time to celebrate our precious daughter's first birthday. We are so proud of the little girl she is growing up to be :)

Yard sale weekend...it's a slam dunk!

Sydney enjoyed riding facing forward today for the first time in her new big girl car seat :)!

Sydney working to figure out how just exactly how to work that new toy I picked up at a neighborhood yard sale today.

It didn't take her long to perfect the two handed slam dunk!

The third Saturday in May always marks our Hidden River neighborhood-wide sale, and Sydney, Daddy, Nana and Mommy have all been working hard to put on a successful yard sale of our own! It was a lot of work, but it really paid off, and actually we had a lot of fun! The past couple of days have been a reminder that there is a lot of truth in the saying that goes "one man's junk is another man's treasure." :)

Summertime, funtime!

Sydney has been enjoying the beginning of Summer as her Mommy will be off work until August 26th :)

Sydney's plate from Monday night. She loved eating the strawberries, and roll, and managed-with a strange face-to eat a few grean beans :)

We are continuing to introduce more and more foods, and she still loves to eat, but is tiring of her baby food.

Earlier today, we made the switch from formula to milk. So far, so good on that.

"Splish, splash...she was takin' a bath" (and our pig)

Here are some pictures of Sydney from the last week just hanging out and doing some of her routine things at home.

She loves to splish splash in the big tub
One of the college students called this Sydney's Derby Outfit...I guess he was right!

Sunday night at home

Just as a sidenote (and for archiving reasons), at this point in
her young life, Sydney is a PIG :). She loves food, all food. I don't know of anything now she won't eat, and we're letting her try almost everything... Sydney's Monday night's dinner menu: 6 oz sippy cup, baby green beans, baby pears and blueberries, bowl of mashed potatoes, bowl of mac and cheese, cheerios, and for dessert, some dried bananas and pineapple. She ate all of this...every bite, and still wanted more. Combining our best judgement, and her Grandpa's observation that "she's gonna have some problems" :), we stopped until snack time an hour later!

Sydney's First Trip to the Park

Today was Sydney's first trip to the park. She loved the swings, the slide, and everything else we let her (or helped her) try :)

No fear at all...just smiling and laughing...and the higher we pushed her, the better!

I'm not sure who had more fun between the three of us...but I am sure our next park adventure will be soon, and will likely feature feeding the ducks, along with more swinging and sliding.
