The Princess and the Glowworm

Today, our little girl had a blast being a fairy princess for Halloween.

Sydney has been excited about this day for a couple months, ever since she and her Daddy chose this costume together. She has been telling us all week that she is ready to "trick or treat for candy," and she sure was. We went to Trunks of Treats at church and she soon had the Dora basket she carried filled to the top with treats of all sorts. Armed with that Dora basket and her fairy wand, she (in an uncharacteristically soft voice) said "trick or treat" and "thank you" at each trunk we stopped at.
She saw many of her friends, and even some special guests like this goat she stopped to pet :)

Today, our baby boy was happily dressed as a glowworm for his first Halloween.

( I mean, really, do you think you would be that happy if you were forced to put on such a costume and take an insane amount of pictures?)

JJ rode in the stroller for Trunks of Treats and took in all the sights and sounds surrounding him. He really is such a good natured and special little boy.

Happy Halloween from,

We Have Moved

A week ago today, we moved into the house that we have watched progress from the foundation up in four months time. Construction started June 23, and moving day was October 23. We are still settling in, but thanks to some awesome help from our parents who stayed for 2-3 days, and a handful of special friends who helped with some of the tougher tasks, the transition was as smooth as possible.

Living in a hotel for 5 weeks with two kids was quite an experience...seriously at times it was fun. Anyway, we are glad that chapter is behind us and feel so relieved now knowing that our old home is sold.

We hope to see you here soon!

AND, life goes on....I have several things to share in the next few days to catch up with all that we have been into...besides the move.

"Special Stickers"

The Grover sticker on the beach scene = good news! Each time Sydney uses the potty successfully, she gets to pick a "special sticker" and put it on the beach picture. The beach scene has been empty for several weeks but we talked about it every day, even when she wouldn't sit on the Dora potty. But this week, she has renewed interest in trying to use her Dora potty, and we have seen some success! Here's hoping the rest of those Sesame Street friend "special stickers" fill up that beach real soon :)

PS....we move tomorrow! YHEA!

Newest Song

Sydney has been practicing and working to perfect this song for a while now...she's really got it down and even let me capture it on video tonight. Enjoy!

PS. Please excuse the loud mommy who yells at the end in the background...a little proud of my 28 month old girl who can happily sing those ABC's :)

A Happy 6 Month Old

Our very happy little boy turns 6 months old tomorrow! JJ is so happy that others around us constantly say something to that effect. The only thing out if he is hungry!

He is enjoying his baby food, and his hair is growing back-lighter than at birth! JJ is laughing out loud and rolling. He can sit up with our help, but is not ready to on his own. He is wearing some clothes in 6 to 12 months, but lately more in 12 to 18 months...we will find out more next week but he is a BIG boy!

I couldn't resist this chance to take a picture of both of them since the opportunity only comes along once in a blue moon when big sister Sydney slows down for more than 2 seconds. They have both been troopers during this last month of extreme closeness of hotel living :)

Sydney is very funny. She says things several times every day that make us laugh, laugh, laugh.

Here are a few of my favorites from her recent "funnys."

(as she is making a "yuck" face and pointing to one of Nana's dead plants on her front porch)
"Mommy, where pretty flowers go?"

(every time we pass a storage building-whether it is the one where all of our belonging are being stored or not)
"Bye bye kitchen, bye bye buggy, bye bye (name another toy)"

(as we were walking through Diddle Arena the other day and trying out new seats for this upcoming season)
"RED...where are you RED? Where are you RED?" (over and over and over again)

(Friday night we took JJ to small group with us as Sydney stayed with a sitter. Later that night she was talking to us about JJ)
"Miss you brother...miss you JJ...JJ working"

(Saturday morning as were were driving by a field of horses and she spotted one doing #2)
"Horsey pooping, horsey need diaper!"

Homemade Baby Food

For my birthday a few months ago, Jeff gave me a really cool gift....a Babycook! If you're not familiar with a Babycook, it is a nifty little appliance that allows you to easily make homemade baby food. It steams, blends, reheats, and defrosts all-in-one! I had been intrigued for several months since talking with my friends Cheye and Jenny, who both have used this handy dandy contraption.

For the past few weeks, I have been using my Babycook to make all of JJ's baby food. So far, it's help me make carrots, squash, green beans and zucchini. It's great because I have been able to buy all of those veggies in organic...So, he is getting only fresh veggies (with fresh fruits to come soon), no preservatives!...And after the initial expense of buying the Babycook, the actual cost of making the baby food is about 1/4 what it would be in buying from the it will save $$...Plus it's fun :) to do.

In case you're the least bit intrigued like I was, here is how the process works:

Baby organic carrots-cost $2.00/bag, pictured in this batch, about 1/2 the bag

Carrots ready to steam...

Carrots steaming...the light that you see "on" goes off when the steaming is complete.

Ready to puree/blend, and can do so to desired consistency

Poured in these special freezable trays.

Or poured into these ice cube trays. The finished baby food can stay in the fridge for up to three days and you can freeze any left over for the days and weeks to come. This process is really working well for us!

Without a doubt, watching him enjoy is the best part!

First Haircut

Sydney got a much needed first haircut this weekend. The only "barber" to ever cut her hair (and it was just her bangs) was Mommy, but her hair has been in need of some major shaping up! Saturday, we headed to a place called Kiddie Kutters in Lexington.

She started out sitting on a Barbie Jeep to have the haircut, but got scared when the hairdresser tried to put the cape on her :) she chose to sit on her Nana's lap. All was well, and she did a great job!

The best part is AFTER, as that is when you get a lollipop and a balloon!
