JJ really, I mean really, wants to find a way to get in the cottage to play.

He tries so hard. I think it intrigues him and he immediately moves toward it whenever we go upstairs.

She laughs at him. Teases him.

It won't be long!

"Elmo Show"

This past weekend, we took Sydney and JJ to see Sesame Street Live-"Elmo show" to Sydney. Of course, she enjoyed it, but the biggest surprise was how much JJ did too! It was amazing how closely he paid attention as he clapped and smiled for Elmo and the gang. I bet Jeff's knee is still tired since JJ bounced on it for what seemed like most of the show.

Precious Blessings

How are my sweet babies this big? How in the world is it almost time to sing Happy Birthday to a ONE year old and a THREE year old?

Special Gift

Sydney and JJ will have a nice new swingset to use this year thanks to several days of VERY hard work put in by their Papaw, who hauled wood, sawed, planned, assembled, and much more. Buddy and Daddy were also able to help with some of the lifting and assembly.

Sydney enjoyed "supervising" the project. Even, while she ate breakfast (below):

Finished product:

The set was a gift from Granny & Papaw, Nana & Buddy, Mommy & Daddy. We're looking forward to many years of watching our sweeties as they enjoy playing on it.

Sydney is very excited about her new swingset and now all we need is grass. "We need grass," she keeps telling us. No worries-some (in the form of sod) is due to arrive in the next week or so, weather depending.

"Rainbow Story"

We are so blessed to have a church that is working alongside us each week as we teach Sydney about Jesus and the Bible.

Today, as I put her down for her nap, we were reading a couple of stories from her "100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs" book. (I highly recommend getting a copy of this if you have kids around Sydney's age.)

This is her favorite book and I'm so glad it is. Anyway, she has two favorites-one about the rainbow that appeared for Noah and crew after the 40 days of rain (she always wants me to read this one), and one about God's grace (she always wants Daddy to read this one). We read them over and over, day in and day out.

But today, she had a surprise for me. As we turned to the page with the "rainbow story," she said "I want to read it Mommy." I thought, yhea right...but obliged :) Here is a picture of the pages...

As she pointed to the picture, she said "The rain stopped. The land dried up. Noah and his animals came out of the ark, this boat. God gave him a rainbow." I was amazed. I asked her to tell me the story again...and she did!

I can't wait for her to tell her Daddy this story tonight.

Then, she told me she wanted to pray, which she has been doing for us quite a bit lately. She thanked God for Sydney (LOL!), JJ, Mommy and Daddy before "Amen!"

This was a big lesson for me...a lesson that something that seems so routine to me is much more than just reading this "rainbow story" over and over. Even at age 2, she is learning the most important stories that exist for us in this world, the stories from the book of life.

Disney on Ice

Another highlight of our Spring Break weekend trip to St Louis was a visit to see Mickey, Minnie and friends and Disney on Ice. Sydney loved it and was sad when it was over, almost crying and asking when they would come back.

Jeff, JJ and I enjoyed it too, but the most fun was watching Sydney enjoy the show.

First Swim

Our hotel this weekend in St. Louis had an indoor pool and Sydney was all about using it. What we did not realize was that JJ would love it so much too. I guess we should've since he cries every time we take him out of the bathtub. He had so much fun! Here's a peek:

I don't remember sweet JJ being in the pool last summer. If he was, it was very brief. He was so little that he mostly slept in the stroller or sat in my lap while I watched Sydney in the baby pool.

I'm thinking this bodes very well for my summer with these two at the pool!

Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow. Our boy turns 11 months old too!

Day at the Zoo

We have packed a lot of fun into the past few days as it has been Spring Break at WKU. On Thursday, Jeff and I headed to St Louis with the kids for a couple of days. We love St Louis and it is such a fun place to go in a 4 hour or so drive. Their zoo, which was our first stop, is consistently ranked as one of the top zoos AND it is free!

This was JJ's first zoo trip and Sydney has not been since she was just over a year old (and she was calling all the animals dogs). She had a big time and we were blessed with awesome weather! Her favorites were the elephants, seals, and riding the "choo choo train." JJ seemed to like the monkeys best, and he had a fun time too.

Sometimes, I don't get to devote the time I'd like to general updates about our kids and I'm even less faithful at filling in the (many!) blanks that exist in their baby books. I was looking back for some info about JJ last night, and couldn't find it (or remember it)...which made me think that an update was in order! After all, I enjoy keeping the blog updated but the ultimate reason for blogging in this space is to "give" this gift to my babies someday. So, here goes:

JJ is rolling all over the place and FAST! He also scoots himself around 360 degrees using strength from his arms/hands and will crawl backwards. JJ has six teeth, four on top and two on bottom, with another ready to come through soon. He does this sweet little smile where he 'scrunches' up his face! Along with his baby food, he is eating yogurt, oatmeal, puffs, cheerios, goldfish and a few table foods here and there. He is saying Dada, Mama, ByeBye, NaNa, Ball and he still loves to watch Sydney. He is clapping and waving (although usually waving with both hands at the same time). He plays the cutest peekaboo game you'll ever see and I hope to get it on video soon, but every time I try he 'shuts' off :) Still, the most distinctive thing about JJ is his personality...he is so happy and content! Whether is is the ladies who take care of him at the nursery at church, other Mommies who are picking their kids up from Sarah's, or our friends and family, we are constantly getting comments about our boy to this effect. I can't believe that the calendar has turned to March and we are thinking about his 1st birthday next month!

It is a joy to get to be with a sweet little girl like Sydney day after day. Her verbal skills and her memory are really something. She loves singing songs and reading stories in her kids bible story book. Minnie Mouse and Dora are her two "loves" right now. She sleeps with about 10 stuffed animals...just keeps adding to the number. A new game that we have really been having fun with is hide and seek. She loves finding us and the best part about the game is seeing her happy face when she does. She is very loving and gives us hugs and kisses a lot, and sometimes tells us when we should do the same :) Sydney is now potty trained but still wearing a pull up when she sleeps. It has now been weeks since an accident and she is very proud of herself! Because of this, and other things she gets to do, she likes to remind us that JJ is "just a baby," and she is a "big sister." She loves attending sporting events and talks about that a lot. Breakfast has to be her favorite meal (cereal addict!) and she will talk about what she wants the next day at bedtime. (She also tells Jeff and I what we will eat). We have been talking about school for the fall and she is also excited about that!

Our special friends Brian and Stacy welcomed their second child, Jacy Morgan, into the world last Friday, February 19th. As you can see in the picture, she is beautiful, just like her mother :) She weighed in at 7 lb, 14 oz and was 20 inches long. This picture is taken of her at home with her big sister Avery! I am dying to see her, and if all goes as planned, I will get to next week during my Spring Break.
