New Friend

Our yard backs up to a fairly large cattle farm. Sydney has always enjoyed locating the cows and "mooing" back at them. But, in the past couple of weeks, she has made a special new friend.

(Typing in some 2 year old terminology here)...Apparently, one of the "Mommy cows" had twins and was not caring for one of them. So, the Downings (who own the farm), are raising the "baby cow," who stays almost directly behind our house. A major highlight of our day now is visiting the "baby cow" several times. Sydney talks to her...about everything from eating, resting and "going to the potty" (this was as we watched her potty herself.)

What a neat experience for her to have.

Birthday Girl

We had a big day with the birthday girl. We took her to Holiday World, met up with Nana and Buddy and all enjoyed beautiful weather, small crowds and a lot of fun. Sydney's favorite part was the "water park," but she got to enjoy several of the rides too.

I even had the honor of riding along for her first (kiddie) roller coaster ride.

Happy Birthday sweetheart!

"Jesus Will Grow Me Up"

Her 3rd birthday is Wednesday! That reality makes tomorrow the last day I will get to spend with my 2 year old little girl. She is such a joy and a gift from the Almighty. As always, I am cherishing every moment and day with her. I have so enjoyed the 3rd year of her life. She is at such a fun stage and is constantly making us laugh!

Of course, a Mommy would tell you this...but she is so smart. Most of all, her memory is absolutely amazing. She is able to recall events and specifics from many, many months ago about places we've been, things we've done, topics we've discussed, etc.

Even Daddy will not deny that Sydney is Mommy's girl. She loves to wear, eat, do the same things as Mommy. She is always "helping me," & giving me hugs, and talks to me nonstop throughout our days together. She also sounds more like me every day as she makes plans, and use many of the phrases that she has heard me use so often. She is eager to tell both of us "love you" a lot.

Right now, Sydney is SO excited about her "Minnie Mickey party" this weekend, going to school in the fall, and summer VBS. She loves playing outside on her swingset and with her trike, Barbie car and bubble mower. She also loves going to church and baseball games. One thing we always laugh at is the fact that at bedtime, she always wants to talk about what we all want for breakfast (and of course, she will hold us to it the next morning). It's just turned into part of her nightly routine.

Tonight, as we were putting her to bed, her Daddy made a simple comment about wishing she wasn't growing up so fast. Her reply? "Jesus will grow me up."

She is one amazing child and I don't think we could love her anymore.

Big Red,

My kids love you. We read and talk about you. We get excited when we know we will see you.

My "big girl" saves snacks for you, and tells you she is doing so by screaming your name at the games...even when you are very far away. Just last night, she brought you a Teddy Graham at the baseball game. She hugs, blows kisses & high fives you. This weekend at one of the games, she even danced with you. Last night, you "told" her she was "1!" She screams and searches for you anytime we approach the side of town where she knows "you live" (campus).

My "little boy" can't say your name or dance with you yet, but he loves watching you too. He gets so excited and literally bounces up and down in our laps anytime you are close. He laughs out loud and waves his hands up and down too.

Thank you Big Red. Thanks for making my kids feel so special. Thanks for taking the time to pay such special attention to them. You are a big deal in their little worlds. I don't really care what anyone says about you...you are the perfect mascot.

I love you too.

Traumatic Experience

JJ has really been in need of a haircut for a few weeks. I have tried to trim it at home without much success. I decided we needed a professional to step in :). At the suggestion of a couple of my girlfriends, we took him to Great Clips on Thursday night. And, so the story goes:

Our happy little boy was not okay with the idea of having his hair cut. He pretty much screamed from the beginning to the end of the visit.

The good news is that his hair looks soooo much better! He looks even more like a little boy, instead of a baby :)

And here he is below, showing off his new cut and his matching shirt with big sister. These two are quite a pair at the baseball games!

Strawberry Fun!

Last Friday, we made the short trip to Portland, TN to this strawberry farm. We all four love strawberries and it is peak season!

As soon as we arrived, Sydney quickly grabbed a basket and
started scoping out the plentiful crop.

She did a great job finding AND picking them!

Four pounds of beautiful berries later...we were ready to bring
them home to enjoy!

We took some of them and made a yummy strawberry pie!
She loved helping me.

Special times...look how proud she is of our final product!

Taking a Stand

JJ has some new tricks up his sleeve! He is pulling up, cruising, and taking several steps at a time while holding onto us. He even pulled himself up and managed to crawl up two steps. (Oops!...the bottom gate stays latched now). These are all new developments within the last week, and he is very proud of himself.

When he wakes up from his naps, this is how we find his room. Big sister always wants to know "Why he throw them all out in the floor, Mommy?"

Monkey Joes

On our last visit to Georgetown, 2 weekends ago, we met the Linn's at Monkey Joe's in Lexington. I did not know anything about it, but my friend Stacy knew the scoop! This is a fun place that has HUGE inflatable bouncy thingies :)...it's basically the kind of place little kids dream about! One of the inflatables was even Dora themed.

Sydney and Avery had a blast together, and it was the perfect place for such a rainy, yucky day. (The Saturday we went was the beginning of the monsoon of rain and flooding that hit BG and especially Nashville).

After all that climbing, bouncing & playing, what could be better than sharing an ICEE with a friend?

Proud

I have many proud moments as a Mommy.

My "other" job allows me to meet some pretty cool "kids" too.

Today, one of my former students contacted me for some assistance in proofreading documents for his application to dental school for Fall 2011.

He also updated me about his summer plans. To see just a little bit about why I'm so proud of him, and the group of WKU students who will journey with him this summer, check out this website. You can even donate to their cause.

I'm around college students a lot, at work and church. Sometimes they get a bad rap...sometimes that is deserved. However many times, they are doing very admiral things, supporting worthy causes...and that deserves mucho credit too!

Wouldn't It Be Nice...

Wouldn't it be nice if we all had a cousin and special friend of the same age and gender to grow up with? Someone we could always count on to hold hands, run through the park, laugh and be silly alongside us.

Most of us aren't lucky enough to have this special kind of relationship. But my girl does, and she loves her "Lilll-eee!" (Even if she bosses her around sometimes and even breaks her pretty beaded necklace...sorry again about that LGC.) Anyway, it is a great blessing and fun for us just to watch them as they enjoy each other. We look forward to many more years of watching their relationship grow, as they do the same.

And, here are all five sweet cousins together.

A Very Happy Mother's Day, Indeed!

How lucky of a MOM am I??!! I enjoyed my day so much with my two sweethearts!

This Mother's Day, we were also blessed to have Jeff's family visiting with us. Sydney and JJ's cousin Trace had a soccer tournament in BG over the weekend, which gave us a special couple of days together!

Granny with her two "babies" on Mother's Day

I am so glad that my mother in law got to spend Mother's Day with both of her children, and all five of her grandchildren! Special!!

Thank you also to my wonderful husband who made sure this I felt honored as a Mom this Mother's Day weekend, even starting early on Friday when the doorbell rang and beautiful tulips (my favorite) arrived! It is nice to know that all of the fun (and even the few not so fun) things I get to do as a Mom really are appreciated.

My whole weekend was filled with joy and surprises. My sweet little girl is even old enough now to tell me "Happy Mother's Day" unprompted, which is more special than any card, flower, or gift. I am so thankful that God has given me such a sweet family!

I know that it is doubtful that you will be able to check this blog on Mother's Day Sunday, or on your birthday next week.

I'm glad we got to celebrate last weekend! Happy Mother's Day! Happy Birthday too...both just a little early!

Love, Me, my sweet husband and your beautiful grandkids :)

Newest Hobbies

JJ has become an expert at fast crawling!

He also does a great job of making messes throughout the house!

Meanwhile, Sydney has a knack for doing puzzles ("cuzzles") very well!
