Sweet #3,

Sweet little #3,
We are almost 16 weeks through this first journey together and I can't believe it. Why does this period of time have to go by so fast? I have heard some say that pregnancy moves by so slowly and I totally disagree with that. This precious time for me slipped by so quickly with your sister, and your brother, just as it is this 3rd time around.

Two nights ago, I felt you move for the first time---absolutely magical.

The app your Daddy put on my IPOD says today you are the size of an avocado, about 4 to 5 inches long and weighing 3 to 5 oz. Where in the world have I picked up that extra 7 lbs? :)

I am trying to enjoy every single moment with you as I get the joy of spending my days with your big brother and big sister. I often wonder how it is I deserve to live this life that I do-only by his grace. In just a few short weeks, I will know whether you will be our 2nd son or daughter! But I'd be content to let those weeks pass by as slow as possible, praising God and celebrating each precious moment as your Mommy!

PS: For anyone wondering, JJ has recovered so well (and quickly) from his surgery. He did not have any bleeding at all. After coming out of the recovery room, the nurses told us that he never even cried. Before we left the hospital, he was given the okay to eat following his afternoon nap. By Friday night, he was playing and eating spaghetti at his favorite restaurant (Fazoli's). He is a special little word for him this weekend has been Champ! We are very glad that this is behind us and thankful for his doctor and JJ's sweet personality.

Sweet Little Prince and Surgery

On Friday, my sweet little boy...the one who has discovered how much fun riding on Daddy's shoulders is, who surely has the sweetest and most content disposition of any child I've known...

will have surgery to remove the "flap" that is restricting his tongue from normal movement. The medical term for his surgery is called "frenulectomy." We have known about this issue since he was a newborn, but encouraged that his case was not "severe" and it might work itself out. Basically, that just hasn't happened. The risks of not doing the surgery include delayed or impaired speech development, and a long list of other not so desirable things.

As far as surgery goes, it is "relatively minor" but it is surgery and he will be put to sleep and have stitches. The actual procedure will only take about 15 minutes and Dr. Sims (who also goes to our church) has promised us that he will be with JJ the entire time...even as he is put to sleep. We will not have to stay overnight at the hospital, BUT he will be unable to eat for 24-36 hours with only a clear liquid diet until sometime on Saturday. That means no milk and no food...have you seen my boy eat?!

Many of you have already called me/emailed me this week, knowing that this Mommy's calendar has been circled on July 23 for a while now. Thank you for your prayers for JJ and us. It may only be "relatively minor" as far as surgery goes, but he is our sweet, sweet baby boy who we love so much and there's nothing even close to "relatively minor" about that.

Our friends Stuart and Jenny are in the process of adopting a baby (or maybe even twins) from Ethiopia. The Borders, who you may know or have linked to through our site before, have 2 babies already. Their sweet twins Spencer and Kate are 1 1/2 years old but they are also very committed to adoption through the message that the gospel brings us.

As I'm sure you know, adoption is SO expensive. If you are a Christian, you also know that it was with GREAT cost that we were adopted into God's family.

AND, these are just super people. Stuart is a minister at our church and Jenny ministers alongside him as also one awesome stay at home mom :)

Jeff and I both admire them so much for their conviction and devotion to Jesus Christ. We very much respect what they are doing for some child on the other side of the world who desperately needs a loving home.

You can read more about their story and how to support them for as little as 10$ here. They're selling awesome etched glass candle holders (that Stuart custom designed) to help with their fundraising.

St Louis Adventure

This past weekend, we went on an adventure with the Linn's to St Louis. In 2 1/2 days, I think we packed in about all of the fun we possibly could...swimming, Cardinals baseball, Budweiser plant and Clydesdale stable tour, more swimming, Dora Live show, Grant's Farm, and lots of good food along the way!

Two little girls, two babies and two Daddies waiting excitedly for the Dora show!

These are two little blue-eyed girls that have so much fun together.

They really love each other.

My little girl had a lot of fun.

She thanked God last night for letting us go to St Louis with Avery :) Her favorite part of the trip was the Dora show.

JJ was happy and had a great time too. We laughed at him as he "moooooed" at the cows, and the elephants :) at Grant's Farm. We have the memory of taking Sydney to the St Louis Zoo at his exact age as she called every animal a dog.

Jeff and I loved our time with our friends and their sweet girls, Avery & Jacy. It was neat for me to spend my birthday weekend with some of our absolute favorite people. And you know you have a special friendship when you spend the better part of three days together, and are still calling each other a couple days after the trip because "we just didn't have time" to talk about this or that.

My little girl, Your big sister

Dear #3,
Your big sister is so excited about the news of YOU! We all four went to see Dr. Gass last Friday and heard your heartbeat loud and clear, in the high 140's to high 150's. She immediately said "I want a sister." But the next sentence out of her mouth was "I want another brother." However, her normal answer is "I want another brother and another sister." :)

Here, she and I are celebrating the 4th of July last week, one of my favorite days all year long. She loves it too.

I just put her down for a nap and she is praying for "our baby," then she pats my growing stomach and says "hi brother, hi sister" and wants me to tell her what you are doing. I told her that you were probably taking a nap too. I am so thankful that both your big brother and sister are going to be so close in age to you, yet she is also old enough this time around to share in our excitement.

We all love you...And my little girl is going to be one awesome big sister for you.

JJ and Sydney are very excited to share some news! Many of you are aware of the news by now:

We still can't believe it!

Yes, on or around January 7, 2011, we will have not only a Big Sister (for the second time), but also a Big Brother! He will be such a sweet brother.

Here's hoping the Big Sister and the Big Brother will understand that squeezing this hard won't be okay for a few months :)

We are all doing great. I am 12 plus weeks along and past (hopefully) the awful sickness that comes along with the first trimester. Jeff and I are just feeling incredibly blessed that it was only a few years ago when we were discouraged but hoping/praying for "A" child...and now HE is bringing a 3rd to us!
