Building a Bear

I created this post several weeks ago and forgot to ever publish. I remembered this morning becuase she has taken this Sleeping Beauty bear to school today for the "letter box"----this is "S" week.

One of Sydney's Christmas gifts from my parents was a gift card to Build a Bear store. Due to snow and bad roads the day we were supposed to go and visit my grandparents in WV, we changed plans and visited the Build a Bear in Lexington. She got to choose, stuff, clothe and name her bear. The bear's name is (appropriately) "Sleeping Beauty." We really enjoyed watching her enjoy :) the experience.

2 Weeks

Luke turned 2 weeks old on Friday! We celebrated by visiting the doctor and playing in the snow and HE celebrated big time :) by sleeping all night in his big bed upstairs! He seriously loves being swaddled in his Miracle Blanket and only woke up one time around 3am to eat!

Of course, he is still asleep a lot of the time during the day too, but in the past couple of days, he is awake more and more. He is doing so well...all except that part about wanting to be held all day long! It's okay though, because Daddy and I are both enjoying holding & admiring him as he sleeps or looks around.

As far as his growth, he is 21.5 inches, weighed in at 8 lb, 11oz and measured a large head (75th-80th percentile). His doctor gave him a great overall report, and we are so thankful for his health.

Later Friday afternoon, Daddy took Sydney and JJ out to play in the snow. JJ hated it and wanted to come back inside with me.

Sydney had a big time, even though the snow wouldn't pack well enough for them to build a snowman. She's hoping for more "better" snow soon!

Two of the things I love most about you are your big heart and your big smile.

Guess it's a good thing you have big arms and a big lap too!

I love do they.

Can't imagine being on this adventure called life without you.

Jeff's parents and his sister and her family visited us on Monday.

The picture above is not just any picture, but pretty much a miracle. We have all 6 cousins (grandkids) happy, smiling, looking...even sweet Luke is awake for the moment! It will likely take years to accomplish this again ! Think JJ looks happy ? :)

Guessing Game

At times, it is amazing how much Luke looks like both JJ & Sydney when they were newborns. Here's a comparison, but they are not necessarily in "birth order."

What a lucky mom these three babies have made me...

My Picture of the Day

What an adorable face!

I can remember so clearly my other little man wearing this same sleeper not so long ago.

Tomorrow, Luke Asher will be one week old! To celebrate, we are going to have his pictures taken in the morning.

We are enjoying every moment with our sweet Luke. He is still sleeping for what seems like 20 or more hours a day. We are waking up a couple of times during the night with him, but he goes right back to sleep very well wrapped up in his miracle blanket in his swing. This brings back sweet memories as Sydney slept in the same swing for the first 5-6 weeks of her life.

This afternoon, I am reminded about how blessed I am. My sweet parents have our two "big" kids :), my wonderful husband and best friend has gone to work to process payroll, and I get to hang out in my warm house with this little boy:

Look at how long those legs already look as he (partially) stretches out in his bouncer! He loves to sleep with his hands up in front of his face.

I can't believe how much I've fallen in love with him in five short days.

While he sleeps, I have time to "play" with all the pictures we've taken of him over since last Friday. Amazing.

Precious Son

Our precious miracle Luke came screaming into the world at 8:04 am on Friday, marking one of the top 3 single moments in my life. He weighed in at 8lb, 10.25 oz, measured 21.5 inches long. He is the biggest of our three and, so thankfully, a very healthy boy! Luke has a head full of dark hair and those beautiful blue eyes. Almost everyone has said that he looks like Sydney and JJ as newborns.

We came home from the hospital on Sunday and he is doing very well. Sydney is in love with baby Luke, and JJ was hesitant at first, but warming up to him as well :) We took him to his doctor this morning and he has started gaining his weight back and also almost gotten rid of the bit of jaundice he had.

So far he loves being held, hanging out in his swing and lounger and especially being swaddled in his miracle blanket.

We couldn't dream of a more precious gift.

Here are some photos of my (already) spoiled baby boy and his first four days with us:

My Sweet Luke,

My sweet, sweet baby boy....

I love you so much already that I can't hold tears back as I think about meeting you in less than 2 days.

Your name, Luke, is so beautiful. Indeed, the gospel of Luke tells the most beautiful story that will ever be told. Your second name, Asher, is also perfect...blessed, fortunate and happy. Your Daddy and I struggled at first, thinking we would never find a name we were as happy with as the other two sweet names we've chosen. Truth be told, I love yours even more.

This moment as I write, I am watching your big brother and big sister play together and I'm overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that I will soon have 3 sweet babies in this home to marvel at.

I told your Daddy the other day that 2010 has been the fastest year of my life, and he agreed. It almost literally feels like yesterday was the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend...the very day we found out that you were on the way! As long as it is God's will, we will dedicate you at church on the next time Mother's Day appears on the calendar. I have tried to cherish every single moment, every single kick & movement as you grow and develop into the sweet & precious baby God made you to be.

More than a few people have pretty much told me I'm crazy to not want this to be over...somehow weird for being content with the Jan 7th date we've had on the calendar for 9 months. I guess they just don't understand how special pregnancy is for much I treasure this time I've been having with you, and, honestly, how scared I am about how fast the time will move by once you are here. I just know I'm going to turn around and see you running through the halls with a ball like JJ, or praying and telling me about your day at school like Sydney.

You will always have the unconditional love from me and from your Daddy. We will make it our #1 goal to teach you about Jesus. We will also work hard to make sure the five of us have lots of fun as we create special memories. We dream about watching you with JJ & Sydney, playing ball with you, taking you to the beach, ball games, or even just for a walk in the neighborhood and to swing in the backyard. We wonder about your personality, pray about your health & salvation, and hope you'll have the sweet disposition of your two siblings.

In the very short term, I am so anticipating the moment that I can hear your loud cry and a quick first report about you from Daddy and Dr Gass. Such a moment, to me, encapsulates the greatest miracle anyone can experience this side of heaven.

I am assuming the next post on this blog will showcase the first photos of your sweet face. I still can't believe that.

Four of us are about ready to become five of us.

And just for the record, here's my guess: 8 lb, 3 oz, 21 inches long. Lots of dark hair and Daddy's blue eyes. We'll see very soon!

I've been spending a lot of time with my 3 sweethearts this weekend...some time with friends and time at church today....but mostly just enjoying the three of him here at our home.

Jeff will attest to the fact that I had a list of projects a mile long a couple of months ago, but we wrapped those up on Friday as planned.

I can't think of something that brings me more happiness than watching them laugh, smile, squeal as they play basketball & "airplane" with daddy.
