Easter

(Artwork my girl brought downstairs to me yesterday morning with spelling to the best of her ability)

Yes, sweetie, he died on the cross, but three days later he rose again!

The Miracle of Easter as told in Luke 24
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” 8 And they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.  ...

Field Trip & Party Time

Thursday was the last day of school before spring break.  Sydney's class had their first field trip.
She was very excited about the trip and getting to ride on the bus :)
All four of the kindergarten classes went to see the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe on WKU's campus and then had a picnic/tour at the Hot Rods stadium.  They returned to school at 2:00 and had their party at 2:15.  I did not get to attend the field trip bc of work, but I was off in time for her party.

First up, they had an egg hunt.  It really was work because even though there were so many eggs that they were just everywhere, they were only allowed to get the eggs with their own "number."  We looked and looked for "#15" eggs until her basket was full.

Here they were lined up and ready to grab some eggs.
This was not my favorite thing to see:
I don't want to think about 1st grade or another teacher.  I like kindergarten just fine -although preschool would be better :) ...and I really am not ready to move from Mrs. Smith.

I've been able to make it to all four of their class parties this year, and for that I'm so thankful.
She had a great day-on the way home from school she said "mommy, this was my best day ever at school."

JJ also had a party and egg hunt yesterday.  Unfortunately, his was at 11:00 so I was not able to go.  He told me the day before that "he wished I could go but he would tell me everything about it."  Jeff wanted to go but we were concerned about jury duty...thankfully he did not have to report, so he could go to JJ's party!
They ate pizza, fruit and broccoli (well, some ate broccoli)??
Of course, the main event was the egg hunt!  You can't tell from this photo but I can verify that he had plenty!  We have tons of eggs around here now.
 So cute!
I think I enjoy these parties more now as a parent than I did when I was their age.
I'm glad they have such great schools and teachers who plan fun things for them.

Preparing for Easter

During March, we've been getting ready for Easter.
It is so important for us to be intentional with the kids.
Bunnies and egg hunts are lots of fun, but it is urgent that they know all about the miracle of our risen Savior.

The first focus for us has been a 28 day devotional called "Why Easter?" given to me by our children's minister.  For each day, there is a summary, scripture to read and follow up questions which we have also used.  It has been a wonderful way to help Sydney start learning how to find verses in her bible and keep our focus in this season on the miracle of Christ's coming, life, death and resurrection.  We started this is in late February and missed a few Wednesday nights, meaning we will finish deliberately on Saturday night.
Sydney and JJ have learned so much.  I have been tremendously blessed too.
It will likely be a devotional that we will revisit for several Easters to come.
In the past couple of weeks, we have also been using Resurrection Eggs.  All three children have loved the fact that we open a new egg...which, in turn, reveals a symbol for another important element of the Christ and the Easter story.

Luke gets really excited when it's his night to open the egg.
I also found neat sticker sets so that follow the story we've been learning about bit by bit.  You can never go wrong with stickers- at least not in this house.
Here is JJ's Easter craft:
Thankful for the time God has given us together this month to study, talk, share and learn.
Tonight we attended our Thursday night Easter service.
Happy Easter everyone!

Win-Win-Win

Tonight would be considered a win-win-win for my two oldest sweethearts.
Chickfila-win, Kid's Night-win, Bunny-win.
SG and JJ were all about meeting the bunny.
One other little boy kept saying "bye bye bunny, bye bye bunny."
He kept his eye on that bunny the whole time we were at dinner.
Just making sure that bunny stayed away from him :)

Everything is just more fun with the three of them.

Weekend Visit

Granny spent Friday afternoon and part of Saturday with us this over the weekend.  The kids love their grandparents very much and they are so lucky to have four great ones.  They were excited all week long about her visit!!

My weekend started off like most...dropping off Sydney at school on Friday morning and heading to Kroger with my boys.

Luke is obsessed with the "bunny" we have seen at Kroger our last few times-but he is scared when we get close.  JJ does not find the bunny scary and wanted me to take his picture:

By lunchtime, Granny was here.  She was able to hang out with the boys and pick up SG from school while Jeff and I were both at work.  She also offered to watch them if we wanted to go out for dinner Friday night...which we definitely took her up on!  We enjoyed dinner at Montana Grill and a quick trip to Target.  Thanks Granny!
Saturday morning the kids had time to play more with Granny and then we all got to watch Sydney play soccer.  She even scored a goal for Granny to see!  Thankful that she wanted to spend two days hanging out with our crew.

This weekend, the kids and I also spent time preparing for school Easter egg hunts for all three kiddos coming up on Thursday....it is amazing to me how much fun they have doing little things like this and I am going to soak it up as long as I can.  Here are the "stuffers" in action:

PS. Thanks Granny for your great photos of my baby boy.

His Bestest Pal

Whether it's time to go for a ride in the car, play, watch a favorite show,
eat, wander around the house :) or go to sleep at naptime and night...
----you can count on this-Pooh (one big, one little) will be by this sweet boys side.

One of the funniest things is when Pooh is temporarily lost-and we all 5 join in the search.

Love this sweet & silly boy so much.

Spring Break

On my spring break, I...
had a girls day with Sydney, helped put together a new bed for JJ,

watched SG and the Zoom play their first two soccer games of the season,
played hours and hours of Disney DVD Bingo with two who play and another who thinks he is,

packed lunches and took these boys to their favorite lunch place-Plano Elementary,
joined my girl at a "Pinkalcious" party at the library,
dropped off kids clothes for my 2nd consignment sale in less than a month, visited my parents for two days and went shopping, and...
watched this big boy swing
and these two buddies play outside for the first time in a long time!
Spring, we are ready!
The warm weather lasted two days and then we were back inside...
we celebrated St Patrick's Day by coloring eggs:

Tomorrow-back to work.  Glad I love my job or it would be even harder.

Lunch Dates

In the last couple weeks, I've had a chance to have some fun lunch dates.
JJ, Luke and I met Caleb, Ella Lu (and Dwan) at Chickfila one day.
Caleb and JJ are already becoming big buddies and will be at the same school together next year....
same class if we get our way.

The boys and I make it to Plano just about every week to have a lunch date with our princess.

I had a chance to meet up with LeAnn while all 5 kiddos were at school one day this week....always treasure my time with her.
AND I enjoyed eating out! two days with my parents while I visited them in Georgetown mid week.  I was very thankful to be "out" with my mom (and dad too).

We've been off our regular schedule for the past few weeks with trips for Jeff to Atlanta and Nashville, his jury duty (ugh!) and my visit to Georgetown....looking forward to a couple of lunch dates with him and the boys this coming week.

Thankful for friends and family that make lunch dates so much fun.

Surprise JJ!!! ("JJ Car")

We had a super surprise for JJ that we put together over the weekend.
He was not allowed in his room, although reports from Sydney
were that he did peek early during the construction process.

When the surprise was ready, we brought him into his room and had him close his eyes.
When he opened them and saw....
... "I love it!!!"
It was time for our big boy to move out of a toddler bed and into a twin size car bed!
And how about a Corvette car bed?!
OH MY, the excitement!
Lukey called it "JJ Car."  Sydney wanted to sleep in it too.
(So did Daddy...ha!)
And this little boy we love so much was just grinning from ear to ear!
Laughing out loud!
Bedtime was fun-our kids never fuss with us about going to bed,
but he was more than ready and asking to go to bed early :)
Goodnight sweet boy,
I think you fell asleep with that smile on your face.
And as I left the room, all I could see were headlights!

Girl Day

Sydney had Thursday and Friday off from school.  Jeff was travelling with work those days and the boys had school on Thursday.  Solution...I decided to give my students an extra early spring break :) and planned a girl day for me and SG.  We did lots of things she loves and had a full day....we hit the library, got her haircut and went shopping at Kroger, Target and the Dollar Tree.

Another request-a trip to the mall so she could ride the carousel.

For lunch I had a special plan.  She has been learning about different cultures in school and recently came home talking about using chop sticks, among other things.  I knew she would love going to a Japanese hibachi restaurant and this was a great chance to try it out with her.
The fire scared her a little bit right at first and she hid behind me, BUT then she really liked it!
She enjoyed the food and using chopsticks too!  Our kiddos are such good eaters.

Mid afternoon, we headed to BGCA to get JJ.  I let Sydney pick between bowling and Chuck E Cheese-they love bowling, but when Chuck E Cheese is an option, it is going to win!

JJ was so excited to go to Chuck E Cheese.
He decided several months ago that he wants to have his 4th birthday party there.

They had lots of time to play games and on the playground.  They've added a few new games since our last visit, including this kiddie size basketball game.  They did very well!

Both of them were hoping to see Chuck himself, so when he made an appearance for a party...they ignored etiquette and pushed their way to see him too :)

After we left, it was time to go get Lukey and head home.
We ate dinner, watched a couple movies and did our Easter devotional.
I had a great day/night with all three of them, even though we missed Daddy.
We ended the night with a very special surprise and treat for the big two...
This may not seem like a big deal to some, but to my kids it was.
They never, meaning never, sleep with us.
Not once in their entire lives at home (including when they were babies) and only a couple of times at a hotel.  They start off night one home from the hospital in their own rooms/beds and that has worked well for us.  We all three enjoyed our little slumber party while Daddy was away.

Thankful that I had a day to spoil my daughter a bit and
for these kind of memory making days with all 3.

Handful

This little boy is going to be a major handful one day, and it's our fault.  Here he was at breakfast-I took his balloon away because I didn't think he needed to hold it while he ate.  He cried-and..... I gave the ballon right back-pronto!

Friday, I'm talking to Nana on the phone when Luke walks up to me (purple marker in hand, cap off) saying "marker, Synee marker."  Um, yes, "marker" is right....he had marked up my wall in purple in 7 different places.  (Side note-sure wish I would've taken photos, but I was more foucsed on finding the magic eraser).  I laugh...my mom is in shock and says what are you going to say to him.  I reply-"what can I say?"  She says maybe I should tell him he shoudn't do that.  :)  Well yeah buddy, I guess shes' right-you really shouldn't do that.

Today we found him being creative with a green sharpie...but that's another story.

Amazing how much the standards have changed for the baby.

Green Eggs and Ham

This has to be one of the greatest books ever....
It was one of my favorites when I was a little girl and now SG and JJ love it too.  "Their" copy is actually mine from when I was their age-it has been well loved!
Continuing with the theme of reading from the week, and recognizing that it was also  Dr. Seuss' birthday, we decided to have a green eggs & ham party Saturday afternoon.
Our party consisted of reading the book,
some simple crafts,
playing a game,
and, of course, preparing Green Eggs & Ham!

I'm glad I looked up the recipe, which prompted me to use blue food coloring
since it would mix in with the eggs to make green.

And green eggs it did make!  We left the ham in it's natural color :)
And what was the verdict?
They did so like Green Eggs and Ham.
Thank you, thank you Sam I am.
