Celebrating Sydney

Last Saturday was a day to celebrate Sydney!  We started off the morning at Chaney's with her friends.

She really enjoyed having her party at Chaney's.  A couple of the highlights were the bouncy pillow,

and making (& enjoying) ice cream sundaes!

They also enjoyed playing together on the playground.
Her favorite part was having such a special time with her friends.

The night before she told me that "I just can't stop thinking about my party and seeing all my friends and family."  She was beaming!
I'm so glad she had such a great time celebrating at Chaney's!
AND that she has such a sweet group of friends who each come from Christian homes.

After the party at Chaney's, we headed home to have lunch and cake with her family.
She hung this sign on our garage door coming into the house.
More excitement-Sydney loves her family very much.
She chose an M & M ice cream cake from Freddy's.  We have never had an ice cream cake from Freddy's :), but she hit a home run.  It was soooo good!

After she opened her presents, we made her close her eyes for a big surprise.
Nana & Buddy got her...
She has been wanting a bigger bike with hand brakes and a kickstand and was very excited!

We are always thrilled when our loved ones
can make the trip down from Georgetown and Clay City.

Brian was telling my grandmother that he is glad she is "a regular" now, and I definitely agree!

There was no need for the fun to stop on Saturday.  The Linn's were able to stay for most of the weekend and the kids enjoyed the pool, a sleepover, butterflies, a waterslide, popsicles and of course bike rides!  Avery and Jacy had talked B & S into bringing their bikes so the five of them rode a lot together.

 Silly girls!
Sydney's friends Arden & Avery have become sweet friends too.

And now, you'll find our girl riding whenever she gets the chance.
I love when I get to go for a long ride with her.
It took her about 10 minutes and one wreck! to adjust to the bigger bike on Saturday.

Her 16 inch bike went home with Jacy who is 4 and no longer in need of training wheels!

We love you so much birthday girl.
Glad your birthday turned into a weekend long party :)
Oh yes and .....that bike is so you.

"Mommy, Can You Push Me?"

This little boy would have me push him in the swing for hours and hours
every single day if that was possible.  He cannot get enough of his swing!
So blessed to spend time with him, pushing him in the swing or whatever !

Happy 7th birthday Sydney!

Happy 7th birthday Sydney!
You are our beautiful princess, inside and out.  I am so thankful that you are my daughter.  You are a vibrant, energetic and sweet little girl.  Although you are only 7, you have developed a sweet sensitivity toward others and are mature well beyond your years in this sense.  Daddy, JJ, Luke and I love you so much.

You are just about ready to wrap up your 1st grade year, and you've had a great time.  You love Frozen and My Little Pony, watermelon, chocolate, making bracelets and playing silly games with your brothers.  You also like riding your bike, swinging, Minecraft on the ipad, making crafts and have started to pick up the hobby of basketball.

You enjoy life and tackle each day with enthusiasm and a smile.  Whether we are hanging out at home on a cold winter day, going somewhere fun, or just getting ready for something simple like a dress up day at school or soccer practice, you are all in.  I love to watch you embrace and enjoy the adventures that life brings.

I hope that your 7th birthday is so much fun!  Mommy still misses you every single school day and sure is looking forward to having you at home all summer long :)

Ugly Caterpillars into Beautiful Butterflies

The kids and I recently wrapped up our own science project of sorts.  A few weeks ago, we ordered and received five caterpillars in the mail.
 They sure were ugly.
For about a week, they crawl around their jar and eat and eliminate and grow.
Next, they climb to the top of the jar and build a cocoon.
At that point, it is time to move them into a butterfly garden.
After about a week of nothing, one morning...a beautiful butterfly!
And the next day, the other four emerged too.
The transformation from caterpillar to butterfly was complete.

Then, the fun part-we got to feed the butterflies, and watch them grow.  We enjoyed watching them fly and move around in their habitat for a few days.

Sydney's teacher asked me to send in photos to her and Sydney got to share with her class.

Finally, came the big day-it was time to release the butterflies.
They were excited but also sad to see the butterflies go.
Notice the nets in hand-they had a plan to catch them in those nets :)
We carefully unzipped the habitat.
That part about catching them in their nets-that did not pan out.
Actually, before we could hardly blink, the first butterfly was nearly out of sight.
They took time to hold a couple of those remaining who were not quite as quick to take off.

 Precious !

This was a great learning experience for the three of them-and for me too.

Through this whole process, I couldn't help but to reflect on how similar we are to ugly caterpillars.  Our sin is ugly.  This sin-filled world is ugly.

However our Savior took all of our sins when he died on the cross.  Jesus, the obedient son, took our punishment and all the wrath we deserve.  Today, God sees each believer not as an ugly caterpillar, but as a beautiful butterfly!  This is only possible through Jesus' life and death and ultimately resurrection.  No matter how much I ponder this, I find it both stunning and amazing.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Zoom Soccer Spring 2014

Sydney is finishing up another soccer season with the Zoom.  She enjoys soccer very much and wants to be the fastest on the field :)  She did win fastest girl in her class at school in a race they had right before the Derby.  She even has a medal that she wears to prove it!

It is hard to believe she has played three full years now, and six seasons.

She has grown a lot and improved since the fall of 2011!

 Go Zoom!
These two love doing their soccer together-what a great Daddy she has!

Saturday after our game, we had our end of year celebration at Sonic.

Sydney had a great game Saturday, scoring 3 goals.
One more game on Monday night before this season is in the books, and later this summer we will see if she is interested in playing again this fall.

Another great season girl!

JJ's Preschool Graduation Celebration

JJ had his preschool graduation celebration Thursday.  He and his classmates did a wonderful job of singing, reciting verses and even showing off their skills in Spanish!  I love how the program showcases their readiness for school, but also knowledge of the truths in the bible.  I remember feeling the same way at Sydney's graduation....and will continue to pray that his love for Jesus will grow and mature as he does.

There is no way I can explain what a wonderful year this has been for our JJ.
We are so proud of him!

He had a great time singing the songs and had worked to memorize Proverbs 3:5-6.
Here are his verses and a couple of songs.

After the program was finished, he received his preschool diploma from Ms. Emily and Ms. Karen.

A couple of neat things about the day.  When we were talking Thursday night, JJ told me "Mommy, every time I looked at you during my program today, you were smiling at me."  Yes buddy, that is correct!

Also, toward the end of the program, they showed a video highlighting the year.  One section had each child tell what they wanted to be when they grow up.  For the boys, popular choices were firefighter and police officer.  JJ's answer?  ...... a Daddy.  That answer was a great testament to the Daddy he has.

Love my boys so much.
Daddy and I really enjoyed watching you and could
soak in and celebrate all you have learned this year!

Superhero Celebration

JJ has been wanting to have his 5th birthday party at the Paint n' Place since his buddy Caleb had his party there last May.  He was so excited and had been counting down the days for a couple of weeks.

I am so glad that his friends were able to come and celebrate with him.
He has some special friends for sure.

He enjoyed his time painting Batman, opening gifts and sharing donuts with his friends.
He was so happy that Dunkin Donuts could fix donuts with green icing and sprinkles.
I love you sweet boy!

After we wrapped up at the Paint n' Place, we headed for home to celebrate with JJ's family.
He wanted a Batman cake, and I thought it turned out pretty cute.

It was an extra special birthday party this year, because my grandmother got to come and celebrate with us.  This was the first party for my kids that she has been able to attend and we were all thrilled about it.
She joined Jeff's parents, mine and the Linns.
The Linn's stayed with us Friday night and Granny and Papaw stayed until Sunday afternoon, so it just made the weekend special all around.
I made them take this photo after I figured out they are 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 right now.
I am so happy that we could have such a special day celebrating our sweet son JJ.
JJ-you are loved very much!
AND, you are one cute superhero yourself.
